"...Paula Wichall whose art work was included, between 1991 and 1995, in various exhibitions at Cooltan Arts in Brixton.
During my time as curator in the gallery, Paula presented work in the Sex, Health and Education exhibition.
Paula's work developed during that period. She addressed gender through painting and montage. It has a quality all of its own, expressing restrictions of the body, looking inwards at oneself
and it is highly expressive on the subject of gender. Often the work plays with the image of the embryo and how its formation defines us.
I am fully aware that Paula is continuing her search in painting, recreating her own poem of life just as Frida Kahlo did.
I recommend her work as it deals with sensitivities that we usually shy away from."
